We welcome you to the Ancient Sounds of Hawai’i. Our hope is that listening to these ancient chants will assist you on your journey.

Huna, the shamanic tradition of Hawai’I, believes that everything is energy and the key to personal change is realigning the energy of the body. These ancient chants have two purposes. Firstly they are initiations calling certain energies into the body, and secondly, the tonal quality or vibrations of the chants cause the body to vibrate in harmony with those energies, thus assisting with personal and Spiritual growth. Listening to these chants will attune your body and mind to these profound Spiritual energies.

John Tozeland whose Hawaiian name is Kaukahi (the One Who Rises up to the Source of Illumination) and Mary Lou Hill whose Hawaiian name is Ha ‘aheo Kealoha Lani (Walk With Pride, the Love of Heaven) are both Huna Practitioners who have studied these ancient chants in Hawai’i.

It is with great appreciation that John and Mary Lou acknowledge Uncle George Naope who passed many of these chants to us via Tad and Ardie James. We would also like to send our gratitude to Iwalani Kalima, a beautiful Hula dancer, teacher and Chanter for passing on the chant Ka La I Puka Mai La.

The translations were completed by John & Mary Lou using an esoteric dictionary thus gleaning the deeper meanings of the chants.
